Smoke Alarm Resources
All U.S. homes should have working smoke alarms. But some people can't afford smoke alarms, don't realize their importance, or are unable to install and maintain them.
Many communities have programs to assess the need for smoke alarms among their residents and to install free alarms in high-risk homes. These programs are funded by grants from federal and state government and from other organizations. Any story about a fatal fire in a home without a smoke alarm offers a chance to share information about smoke alarm programs that may be available in your area.
Call your local Fire Department or your State Fire Marshal
to ask if there are smoke alarm installation programs in your area.
